Default Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

I just would to know if to watch the original Full Metal Alchemist before watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

I heard somewhere that Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is a remake of Full Metal Alchemist. Is that true? TY

I'm watching the original right now and it's really good! It's been aired before Brotherhood.. so I guess it's better to watch it first! It's 50 episodes... but I heard it differed from the manga starting at episode 25 or something.

Oh man, you guys are FMA noobs. Let the FMA masta educate you.

Fullmetal Alchemist is still an ongoing manga. It will actually be ending soon, and it current has a little over 100 chapters. One chapter is released each month.

Fullmetal Alchemist became a anime in 2004, and the first season followed the first chapters of the manga. Sadly, the anime was plagued with tons of filler constatnly, and eventually the anime eliminated all canon material starting with the second season. The anime made up a few new characters, and had it's own ending. However, this filler ended up being good. Who would of thought? The 1st anime was 52 episodes, and it was eventually followed by a movie, continuing on where the anime left off. It's not bad. However, it's not canon.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood started in April 2009. It's basically reboot of the anime. Brotherhood follows the manga directly, and will have 63 episodes. It is not a remake of the 1st anime series. However, a lot of episodes from the first anime were more or less remade since the 1st anime briefly followed the manga's storyline. Brotherhood is still ongoing, and airs every Sunday in Japan.

The "first" fma diverged form the manga quickly, the plan with this one was to stick to the manga. Brotherhood is therefore the remake of the "first" (manga) story, not the original anime.

By doing it this way they also avoided fillers. The style/art is totally different from the manga though. And they didn't follow it 100% and that's why it's a remake. Not a remake of the anime but the manga.

I guess people are implying that its ok to watch brotherhood without watching the first one because brotherhood follows the story.

However, I watched the first episode of brotherhood and it starts like in the middle of all things... the brothers already are messed up, I thought the story started them as young kids trying to resurrect their mother? (or is that not the manga and the old anime?)
